Terms of Service

If you have a broadband (always on) Internet connection in your home, you can use a Homewatch Networks NSD-2 smart sensor to monitor your home's climate. If your home is wired with active network jacks (you're in luck), plug the smart sensor into an active jack with the Ethernet cable provided.
How do you know which jacks are "active?"
If a jack works with a PC or laptop, that jack is active.
If you have a cable modem or DSL modem, you can plug the smart sensor into an available jack on those devices. If you have a router (or Wi-Fi/wireless router) connected to your cable modem or DSL modem, you should plug the smart sensor into an available jack on the router.
What if you want to place the smart sensor in a part of your home not near any network jacks? You have a few options:
Use a power line Ethernet adaptor to create a live Ethernet jack near any power outlet in your home. One example (there are many vendors) is the Netgear Model XAVB101. Click here to find retailers.
Run an Ethernet cable with a jack/outlet to that location from your modem or router location.
How can I use the smart sensor in my home when all I have is Wi-Fi/wireless Internet access? That's simple. Use a wireless bridge to create a wired Ethernet connection jack to your wireless home network. There are many available solutions from vendors. One example is the Linksys Model WEY610N wireless bridge. Click here to find retailers.
(If you use a modem (dial up) for Internet access and are interested in the Homewatch Networks service, contact us and we'll consider offering a solution if we get enough requests.)
